FortiClient SSL VPN Stuck at 98% on Windows 10 then Immediately Disconnects


Recently most of the users are face that FortiClient VPN reach to 98% and sudden disconnecting. This issue is not solve even after the restart.


This happened due to recent Windows update and there is only one solution to fixed it.


Once you reinstall the FortiClient SSL VPN software this issue can be fixed. Unless it dint worked and you can't connect to the VPN.

My FortiClient VPN doesn't have the Uninstaller Option

 


My FortiClient VPN doesn't have the Uninstaller Option and only have the Repair Option. Therefor cannot Uninstall it.

If your FortiClient VPN or EMS doesn't have the uninstaller option, that means there might be have a corruption of VPN or restriction from the End Point Management System from your System Administrator.

If you want to uninstall it, there is one method to do it in using the the CMD.

  • Open Command Prompt (CMD) as an Administrator.

  • Type the following command and press "Enter" key.

wmic product where "name like 'Forti%%'" call uninstall /nointeractive
  • Then computer will be restart after the uninstall.
This command is very easy to uninstall all Forti production in your computer.

FortiClient EMS is paid version with more features to control your endpoint devices of your organization. There has several features and here I mentioned the basic explanation of each and every features.

This is the feature of FortiEMS in your organization environment and your System Administrator can manage your internet access either you in the organization or with your personal internet source.

This feature already enabled either you connect to the VPN or not. if you need to access the restricted website, please contact your System Administrator to allow it.

Please note that all your internet activity is monitored by the FortiEMS and there is no any privacy in it.

This error appeared in the FortiEMS and not in the basic FortiClient VPN version.

If the above error screen appeared, there is three reason to sort outs:

  • Account locked in the domain environment.
  • Password expired.
  • Account expired.

If the password expire and you already change to the new password and still appeared the above screen there might be synchronization issue and wait for the completion of synchronization time.

If your organization use the direct firewall authentication instead of AD there might be littlie bit delay to sort that issue due to AD need to communicate the Firewall.

If your company use the Fortinet Firewall, you can download the "FortiClient" VPN from their official site. If not you can download the required VPN client software according to your company Firewall and installed it. If you din't know the settings of the VPN client software, you can contact your IT support.

  • Download and install the VPN Client software.
  • Connect to the VPN using your company login credentials. (Make sure before you have access to the company VPN)
  • Windows+R
  • Type your file server name or a IP address and click on the "OK". Please follow the below format,
    • \\FileServer (If you know the name)
    • \\199.99.9.9 (If you know the IP address)


  • Then you will be prompt the login windows.
    • User name: YourDoman\YourUserName (Ford.com\SamanthaB)
    • Password: Company login password 
  • Click on the "OK"
If you follow the above instruction, you can successfully access to the your file servers.

How to setup a VPN through the FortiClient App from the Microsoft Store


If you doesn't have the Admin Right to install the FortiClient Software to your Windows 10 PC, There is a solution provide by FortiClient and the Microsoft Windows 10. Please follow the below instruction to create the VPN without admin rights.


  • Go to "Microsoft Store"
  • Search as "FortiClient" and Install it.
  • Now go to the Start -> Settings -> Network &Internet -> VPN
  • At the “VPN” tab click on the “Add a VPN connection
  • Select the "FortiClient" from the "VPN Provider" drop down box. (If you are not installed the FortiClient App, you can't show it from the drop down box)
  • Please provide the "Conection name" as your VPN name. 
  • Please provide the "Server name or address"
    • Please find the examples of "Server name or address"
  • Click on "Save" button.
  • Click on the "Connect" button and connect to the your VPN.

Unable to establish the vpn connection. The vpn server may be unreachable - FortiClient Error


Please follow the below instruction to resolve the above error.
  • Please check the "TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2" is disabled in the Internet explorer settings.
    • Go to Internet Explorer an click on the setting. 
    • Select "Internet Options" and go to "Advance" tab.

  • If you are using the old FortiClent versions can getting the above error. Therefor please upgrade to the new version.
  • Make sure you have the internet connection. The 80% of this issue getting by not having the internet connection.
  • If the above options are not working, please contact your IT Help-desk to check the server issues as a hit the traffic at the moment or a any downtime at the server.

Unable to logon to server: Your username or password may not be configured properly for this connection (-12) - FortiClient Error



If you get the error "Unable to logon to server: Your username or password may not be configured properly for this connection (-12)" likewise, there has a few things to check before you connect to the FortiClient in domain environment.


  • First of all please check the your login account is in the locked position or not. If it is locked, please contact your IT help-desk to unlock it.
  • If your login account is expired from the domain most probably get the above error. Therefor, Please contact your IT help-desk and extend the login account period.
  • If your organisation used the custom port number instead of the default, please add it as below.
    • Settings - > Edit the Selection Connection

    • Tick on the "Customize port" and add the port number
